ANZ Investments (ASX: ANZ) has announced a significant shift in its management strategy by replacing MFS Institutional Advisors (MFS) with BlackRock Investment Management (Australia). This change is part of ANZ's ongoing efforts to enhance the performance of its KiwiSaver schemes, investment funds, and discretionary investment management services.

Strategic Shift in Management

BlackRock will join three other external fund managers responsible for managing ANZ's international equity exposure. This decision underscores ANZ's commitment to active investment and long-term growth. Fiona Mackenzie, ANZ's Managing Director for Funds Management, emphasized the importance of this strategic move.

"ANZ Investments remains an active investor and will continue to make investment decisions that we believe will deliver strong long-term investment outcomes for all our customers," Mackenzie stated. "We are focused on enhancing and growing our Funds Management business and delivering better outcomes for New Zealanders. To ensure we stay competitive and continue to meet the changing needs of our customers, our business will continue to adapt and evolve."

Positive Contribution Expected

ANZ Investments continually reviews its external managers, monitoring their contributions to risk and return at a total portfolio level. Mackenzie expressed confidence in the new partnership with BlackRock, highlighting its resilience in various market environments.

"We believe introducing the BlackRock strategy will contribute positively in both respects. It is actively managed and designed to be resilient to a variety of market environments," she added.

BlackRock's strategy is expected to comprise approximately 12% of ANZ's total funds under management. This integration is part of ANZ's broader objective to optimize its investment management approach.

Future Partnerships

ANZ Investments is not only focused on the present but also looking towards future collaborations. The company is exploring potential partnerships with both BlackRock and Mercer to further enhance its investment strategies and deliver superior outcomes for its clients.

This strategic move by ANZ Investments reflects its dedication to evolving and meeting the dynamic needs of its customers, ensuring sustained competitiveness in the market.
