S&P/NZX 50 Closed Higher by 0.61%, Lifted by Utilities

By the end of the trading session on 01 July 2024, the benchmark index S&P/NZX 50 ended higher by 0.61% and settled at 11,789.390.  Out of 11 sectors, 05 sectors closed higher along with the index.

Utilities and Consumer Staples were the top-gaining sector, gaining 2.58% and 1.39% respectively in their index values. Communications Services and Financials was the top-lossing sectors, lossing 0.84% and 0.84% respectively in their index values. 

Fletcher Building Limited (NZX: FBU) and Briscoe Group Limited (NZX: BGP) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.36% and 5.94% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Rua Bioscience Limited (NZX: RUA) and Metro Performance Glass Limited (NZX: MPG) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 8.16% and 6.41% in their stock prices.

  • Oil prices remained within the narrowest trading range since 2021, ahead of US economic data that may influence broader markets.
  • The Dow closed down by 0.12%, the S&P 500 decreased by 0.41%, and the NASDAQ ended 0.76% lower.
  • The Hang Seng rose by 0.01%, while the FTSE 100 declined by 0.19% today.
