S&P/NZX 50 Closed Lower by 0.11%, Dragged down by Healthcare

By the end of the trading session on 09 August 2024, the benchmark index S&P/NZX 50 ended lower by 0.11% and settled at 12,243.460. Out of 11 sectors, 05 sectors closed lower along with the index.

Information Technology and Consumer Staples were the top-gaining sector, gaining 2.82% and 2.20% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Healthcare and Utilities were the top-losing sectors, losing 0.75% and 0.64% respectively in their index values.

Trade Window Holdings Limited (NZX: TWL) and Vista Group International Limited (NZX: VGL) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 14.58% and 8.30% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Chatham Rock Phosphate Limited (NZX: CRP) and Burger Fuel Group Limited (NZX: BFG) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 5.00% and 4.84% in their stock prices.

  • With artificial intelligence (AI) becoming a core aspect of daily operations, New Zealand financial services leaders need to rethink how they manage teams, processes, and projects.
  • On the main board, 91 stocks rose, 43 fell, and 45 remained unchanged. Trading was relatively light, with a turnover of AU$86.9 million, and only six companies saw volumes exceeding one million.
  • Court records reveal that Du Val's founders are permitted up to AU$1,500 each per week for living expenses. Last Friday, the High Court placed 64 entities within the property group, along with founders Kenyon and Charlotte Clarke, into interim receivership at the Financial Markets Authority's (FMA) request.
  • Oil prices increased for the third straight session on Thursday, supported by US jobs data that eased demand concerns and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, helping prices rebound from an eight-month low on Monday.
  • The Dow Jones closed up 1.76%, the S&P 500 gained 2.30%, and the NASDAQ finished higher by 2.86%. 
  • The Hang Seng index rose 0.08%, while the FTSE 100 fell 0.27%.
