Vince Hawksworth to Retire; Stew Hamilton Appointed Chief Executive

Mercury NZ Limited (NZX: MCY) announced today that Chief Executive Vince Hawksworth will retire on August 31, 2024. Stew Hamilton, currently Executive GM Generation, will succeed him. Hawksworth, who has been in the role since March 2020, led Mercury through significant growth, including the construction of Turitea Wind Farm and major acquisitions of Tilt Renewables’ NZ assets and Trustpower’s retail business.

Hamilton, who has managed Mercury’s hydro, geothermal, and wind assets, will take over as CEO. Before Mercury, he was CEO at New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Ltd. Mercury Chair Scott St John praised Hawksworth for his exceptional leadership and significant achievements. He highlighted Stew’s strong track record and his role in enhancing Mercury's resilience, safety, and performance. The Board's unanimous decision underscores Stew's capability and the talent within Mercury.
