Sustainable Foods Limited Faces Liquidation Amid Financial Struggles

Sustainable Foods Limited (NZX: SFL), a plant-based food manufacturer known for its plant hemp-based meat alternatives, has entered liquidation. Backed by media company Stuff and All Black TJ Perenara, SFL was co-founded by Justin Lemmens and Kyran Rei in 2018. The company went into voluntary administration on August 23, with Lemmens noting SFL had been navigating a "perfect storm" of challenges. Despite efforts to secure between $500,000 and $1 million to continue trading in 2025, the company was unable to stabilize its financial situation.

SFL's liquidation highlights the difficulties faced by plant-based food companies in a competitive market, despite growing consumer interest in alternative protein products.
