Oji Fibre Solutions Plans to Halt Paper Production at Kinleith Mill

Nov 20, 2024

Oji Fibre Solutions (NZX: OFS) has announced a proposal to cease paper production at its Kinleith Mill in Tokoroa, potentially impacting up to 230 jobs. This move follows the recent closure of OFS's Penrose paper recycling mill, which resulted in 75 job losses.

Chief Executive Jon Ryder stated that after thorough evaluation, the company intends to simplify operations at Kinleith Mill by focusing solely on pulp production. The decision aligns with OFS's strategic goals but raises significant concerns for the affected workforce and the local community.

The proposal reflects ongoing challenges in the paper production sector and signals a shift in OFS’s operational priorities. Stakeholder consultations are expected to take place as the company moves forward with its restructuring plans.
