Jan 31, 2025

OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC) is set to benefit as coking coal and gold are newly classified as critical minerals under New Zealand’s updated strategy. Resources Minister Shane Jones announced the changes at OceanaGold’s Waihi mine, emphasizing the government's commitment to doubling mineral exports to $3 billion by 2035.

The revised critical minerals list now includes 37 minerals, up from 35, aligning with the government’s broader economic and resource development goals. Jones also warned that New Zealand First would take regulatory action against banks and insurers that obstruct these ambitions.
