Market Alert: Strong Nuclear Tensions in South Asia Assessing the Fallout on Global Equity Markets

Canada Adds Phosphorus to Critical Minerals List

Jun 12, 2024

Canada has added phosphorus to its critical minerals list, following similar actions by Australia, the EU, and South Korea. A US decision on phosphorus is expected in 2024-25. Canada has limited phosphate resources, with small deposits in British Columbia and larger, low-grade deposits in Ontario and Quebec. Companies like Fertoz Limited and First Phosphate are developing these resources.

The demand for high-quality phosphoric acid for LFP battery production is expected to rise, benefiting companies like Chatham Rock Phosphate (NZX: CRP). CRP is strategically positioned to supply the North American market with low cadmium rock phosphate from projects such as Korella, Chatham Rise, and Makatea, offering logistical advantages for shipping to the USA and Canada. CRP has identified potential customers and logistics solutions for importing its phosphates into North America.
